Under its contract with the BP Wells Team, SDL NOBEL carried out specialist welding works on Merlin HDSL (High Density Slim Line) conductors for BP Exploration Ltd. The conductors handled ranged in diameter from 22" up to 36", demanding precise control of weld quality on large-bore, high-integrity components.
Conductor welding for well operations requires qualified procedures, certified welders and strict adherence to the operator’s technical standards. SDL NOBEL deployed its experienced welding team and applied approved weld procedures, with each joint controlled through fit-up checks and non-destructive testing to confirm integrity before acceptance.
Alongside the welding scope, the team completed a series of modification works and related tasks in line with BP’s operational requirements. These modifications were planned and executed to suit the specific well programme and to integrate cleanly with existing equipment and interfaces.
All activities were delivered under BP’s quality and HSE framework, with full documentation prepared for each conductor. The works supported the readiness of the Merlin conductors for safe and reliable well operations.
